Big G Says…

The launch of the MetaRide and the GlideRide last year showed a new initiative from Asics to break from its traditional line of staple footwear ranges, but they possibly went a little over the top in my opinion. The EvoRide is the third in the series and this one really hits the spot. It incorporates many of the same features and being closer to a traditional running shoe, it is likely to be far more popular especially at such a reasonable price.

The EvoRide is a neutral lightweight, performance-oriented shoe built on a curved GUIDESOLE midsole designed to promote an efficient running gait. The significantly curved profile encourages an efficient rolling motion from foot strike to toe-off, reducing muscular output and fatigue. Somewhat resembling Hoka's rocker technology, the design keeps the ankle at a constant angle reducing dorsiflexion and plantar flexion.

The single layer of FlyteFoam Propel gives a firm, closer to the ground feel. It does soften up a little after a few runs and gives an energetic response. The outsole has a coating of durable rubber over the majority of the sole. This is an indication that Asics considers this to be suitable as a daily training shoe rather than a lightweight speed shoe where the focus is on saving weight. The engineered seamless single mesh jacquard mesh is lightweight and breathable with a little stretch. The fit at the heel and arch area is snug but the toe box is relatively spacious for an average foot shape.

So here is a modern styled shoe that can bridge the gap between speed trainer and daily trainer. Good as an everyday training shoe especially for midstance strikers where cushioning is not the top priority or as a competition shoe for distances up to 42.2kms. The efficient geometry and responsiveness of this shoe make it a great alternative to the others in the Asics innovative Ride series.
