The Kayano, now in its 26th edition is a tried and tested true high mileage training shoe. It remains one of the world's most popular shoes.

Kayano 25 had seen many updates and there are a few more here but not a major overhaul. The midsole still consists of 2 different Flytefoam densities and 2 Gel implants but the balance has been tweaked. Flytefoam Lyte in the rear of the midsole is a light foam with exceptional shock absorption and has an overlay of Flytefoam Propel which stretches from heel to toe and provides a bouncier effect, resulting in more energy return and improved toe-off. The rearfoot Gel capsule has a more aggressive sculpted shape. So the new package with increased rear and forefoot Gel and the extra Flytefoam Propel give the 26 a much softer feel all round. As with the Nimbus, the ladies Kayano 26 is gender-specific with a generous 13mm heel/toe drop which will suit the biomechanics of most female runners.

All the best traditional Asics stability features are built into this shoe. The external heel cup is possibly the most supportive on the market. lt links into the firm dynamic Duomax pillar which is more resistant to compression and controls pronation of the foot and works with the rigid Trusstic device in the midstance to stop the shoe from twisting on impact.

One significant difference is the fit of the upper at the forefoot. Made of a new jacquard mesh material, which is soft and comfortable, the toe-box has been widened both in height and width for more toe wiggle space. This has always been the Asics flagship model. lf comfort and stability are your most important criteria when selecting running shoes, then the Kayano 26 should be on your shortlist.
